Why This Page Exists

Practical action grows from knowledge, relationships and a willingness to work together.

EcoWaterless Toilets began as a way of helping people find practical waterless sanitation solutions. As the work has developed, it has become increasingly clear that sanitation cannot be separated from the wider questions of health, freshwater protection, community resilience, environmental responsibility and human dignity.

That understanding has led to the creation and support of initiatives that reach beyond the supply of products. Some are humanitarian programs intended to help communities that cannot afford adequate sanitation. Others are educational initiatives that encourage people to think more deeply about eco-villages, permaculture, regenerative living and the future of human settlements.

The projects gathered here do not all have the same organisational relationship with EcoWaterless Toilets. Some are programs that we help lead or facilitate, while others are independent educational initiatives that we support, promote or regard as important companions in the wider journey towards human flourishing and planetary wellbeing.

The purpose of this page is not to create the impression that every initiative is funded in the same way. It is to show how practical sanitation, education, philanthropy, dialogue and regenerative design are beginning to meet within one connected field of action.

Programs We Help Lead

The Waterless Sanitation Assistance Fund is becoming a pathway from concern to practical participation.

The Waterless Sanitation Assistance Fund was established to help bring safe, dignified and environmentally sustainable sanitation to communities that need it but cannot afford it. Its work is still developing, but two important programs now provide clear ways for people and communities to become involved.

One focuses on the relationships that make practical action possible. The other focuses on low-income rural and remote villages whose need is enduring rather than the result of a sudden disaster. Together they reflect a simple belief that meaningful assistance begins by listening, connecting the right people and working respectfully with communities over time.

WSAF Ambassador Program

The Ambassador Program invites humanitarian leaders, public health experts, engineers, philanthropists, sustainability advocates, educators and business leaders to contribute their knowledge, relationships and influence. An ambassador may introduce a community, open a conversation with a foundation, share technical expertise or help connect WSAF with people whose participation could make a worthwhile project possible.

Community Partnership

WSAF Eco-Village Program

The Eco-Village Program is intended for low-income rural and remote villages that live with poor sanitation but are not necessarily responding to an earthquake, flood, famine, drought or conflict. It seeks to bring together funding, appropriate technology, local knowledge and long-term partnership so that safe sanitation can become part of a wider journey towards health, resilience, freshwater stewardship and a more sustainable future.

How Practical Assistance Can Grow

No single organisation can provide every part of the solution.

A successful sanitation project may require community leadership, technical assessment, manufacturing support, transport, installation, education, maintenance and funding. The role of WSAF is therefore not simply to collect donations. It is to help create the relationships through which these different forms of contribution can meet.

A manufacturer may provide favourable pricing or technical guidance. A logistics company may help reach a remote location. A humanitarian or local organisation may identify genuine need and remain involved after installation. Philanthropists, foundations and charitable partners may provide financial support, while ambassadors help ensure that the right people discover one another.

This collaborative approach allows assistance to be shaped around the circumstances of each community rather than forcing every project into the same model.

Education & Regenerative Possibility

Some projects help communities directly. Others help us imagine and learn how healthier communities might be created.

The WSAF programs are practical and humanitarian in character, but they belong within a much wider conversation. Questions about sanitation, water and community resilience naturally lead into questions about how villages, neighbourhoods and cities might be designed to support both human wellbeing and ecological health.

Two companion educational initiatives contribute to that wider work. They are independent from WSAF, yet closely aligned with its concern for community, sustainability and the long-term relationship between people and the places they inhabit.

Gaiarcadia Eco-Village Program

The Gaiarcadia Eco-Village Program represents the Gaiarcadia Academy’s commitment to eco-village education, dialogue, funding pathways and support. It grows from the Academy’s wider interest in regenerative communities and includes the Sustainable Cities and Eco-Villages conversations associated with the Gaiarcadia Summit.

Permaculture World Academy

The Permaculture World Academy is being developed as an educational initiative devoted to permaculture, regenerative design and the practical wisdom of learning from living systems. While the full Academy is still being created, its blog provides a place from which the journey can begin.

Our Commitment to Clarity

Support should be described honestly and in proportion to what has actually occurred.

The initiatives described on this page are at different stages of development and have different relationships with EcoWaterless Toilets. We therefore believe it is important to distinguish carefully between work that is currently active, work being prepared and longer-term possibilities that are still emerging.

As individual projects receive funding or practical assistance, we intend to explain more clearly what has been contributed, who has participated and what outcomes have been achieved. Until then, this page should be read as a transparent account of the direction in which the work is developing, rather than as a claim that every aspiration has already been fulfilled.

We will distinguish support from leadership.

Where EcoWaterless Toilets or WSAF actively leads or facilitates a program, we will say so. Where we simply promote or support an independent initiative, we will describe that relationship accurately.

We will avoid exaggerated claims.

We will not imply that every sale or donation directly funds a particular project unless a specific arrangement has been established and clearly disclosed.

We will report progress as it becomes real.

As villages, partners, ambassadors and funded projects become part of the work, this page can gradually become a record of practical outcomes rather than simply a description of intention.
